Notes on the GPITM Screw Thread Finishes

The Glass Packaging InstituteTM (GPI)TM is the body of member manufacturers that establishes and issues uniform standards for the design and specification of finishes used by American glass manufacturers.

The GPITM standards replace the “GCMI” (Glass Container Manufacturers Institute) standards.

When a cap is referred to as a “15-425”, it means that the diameter across the opening is approximately 15 millimeters, see “T” dimension on illustration below. The “425” designates a specific style, which includes thread geometry and height of the closure.

The Shell Vial Finish is also called a Fire-Polished Neck, where the opening of the vial has the same dimensions as the walls of the vials.
Flat Crimp Finish

The Flat Crimp Finish is available in 11 mm for the 12x32 mm dimension, and in 20 mm for the headspace vials.
Tapered Crimp Finish

Alternatively, a Tapered Crimp Finish is available in 20 mm for the headspace vials.
Snap Finish

The Snap Finish is available in 11 mm for the 12x32 mm dimension and is compatible with both crimp closures and PE snap closures.
8-425 Screw Thread Finishes

The 8-425 Screw Thread Finish is a standard screw thread finishes as outlined by GPITM.  The threads run down to the shoulder of the vial.  The 8-425 Screw Thread Finish has a Standard Opening.
9 mm Screw Thread

The 9 mm Short Screw Thread finish is designed for use with robotic arm autosamplers.  The threads do not run down to the shoulder of the vial.  The 9 mm Screw Thread has a Large Opening.
10-425 Screw Thread Finishes

The 10-425 Screw Thread Finish is a standard screw thread finishes as outlined by GPITM.  The threads run down to the shoulder of the vial.  The 10-425 Screw Thread Finish has a Large Opening.
13-425 Screw Thread Finishes

The 13-425 Screw Thread Finish is standard screw thread finishes as outlined by GPITM.  The threads run down to the shoulder of the vial.  The 13-425 Screw Thread Finish has a Large Opening.
18 mm Screw Thread Finish

The 18 mm Screw Thread Finish is used with Headspace vials.  The thread runs down to the shoulder of the vial.
24-414 Screw Thread Finish

The 24-414 Screw Thread finish is an adapted finish used primarily for environmental testing applications

Vials are also available with a High Recovery Inner Design (HRV).  The outer bottom is flat or has a radius, while the inner design is conical.  These vials are designed for maximum sample recovery.
